A bit off message maybe but our congratulations should go to Beth, the 12 yr old creator of Clyde, the Mascot for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. After the one eyed mascot of the Olympics produced at an extortionate cost by PR Consultants, this is a fun happy fellow. I am aware that already those, no doubt denied mega bucks for their arty productions, are already deriding the Mascot. Yes it is a wee bit fudge and candy twee, but that is what drives Scotland’s tourist industry. The Thistle is the emblem of Scotland and the fact that is was designed by a wee lassie from Cumbernauld should fill us, as a nation, full of pride that our youngsters can create such an iconic Mascot. As far as I am concerned: Love it, well done!

Wind V. Coal
Quote of the Decade
"The trouble with wind farms is that they have a very large spatial footprint for a piddling little bit of electricity. You would need 8oo turbines to produce the output of a coal-fired power station."
