At a time when George Robertson, the Scottish born former Defence Minster in the previous labour administration in Westminster, questions the practical possibilities, or in his words “improbabilities” of a Scottish Defence force any better than Dad’s Army, when Salmond talks blithley of frigates and non-nuclear submarines. To attack any EU fishermen who stray into Scottish waters if they fail to let him join the EU? We now hear that discussions are taking place and a senior police officer has been appointed to review the First Ministers protection. It has been suggested that as the Independence debate gets more heated, the First Ministers safety could not be guaranteed. Are we therefore to expect US Presidential style motorcades as a feature of the Independence hustings or is this a veiled and rather pathetic attempt to discredit the ‘Better Together’ Campaign. Certainly the future defence strategy ad budget seems drawn up on the back of a fag packet. Let us hope that the security issue is better thought out.

Wind V. Coal
Quote of the Decade
"The trouble with wind farms is that they have a very large spatial footprint for a piddling little bit of electricity. You would need 8oo turbines to produce the output of a coal-fired power station."
