Does this man live on an alternative Planet? If you don’t like British Gas or SSE/Hydro charges change to one of the other suppliers. If we had followed his advice last week and signed up with British/Scottish Gas we would have jumped out of the frying pan into the fire. All companies face the same costs and whilst I am happy to argue against SSE and BG figures, the reality is that prices will be similar across the board. The area the Secretary of State could address is the subsidy and carbon costs. At a stroke 8-14% could be written off our bills and that would allow more pressure to be put on the energy companies. The Government should remember that people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones! In the mean time Ed Davey is rumoured to have agreed a strike price for EDF for Nuclear well above the wholesale buy-in costs of SSE which would seem to be around £72 per MWhr. Should he agree similar terms with China for Nuclear and similar for new gas we can expect extensive future rises way ahead of inflation. Asinine comments about making our houses more efficient by buying new white goods and improving insulation just prove how removed from reality this man is. Hey Ed! Most of us insulated or upgraded our insulation years ago. Few of us can afford to replace our white goods until they wear out. Even the most efficient new fridge will save less electricity in ten years than the capital costs of replacement. I forgot you politicians all order your fridges from John Lewis and we, the PBP(Poor Bloody Public), pay for them. You should not judge others by your own standards! And if you want to run multi billion pound schemes, please use tax income and not load it on bills, putting millions of the less affluent of our Society into fuel poverty. Better still don’t bother.
What we see now is an organised display of dis-information featuring your old friends FoE, WWF, RSPB et al. All to bypass the real issue which is the growth of Carbon Taxes, the stealth tax of the last decade..
