THE Scottish Government’s costly green crusade lay in ruins last night after it emerged it has missed its self-imposed climate change targets for three years running. Much blame is laid at the SNP’s feet but don’t forget this started on Labour’s watch. However the SNP Cadre in Holyrood took things to a new height with their renewable targets. Despite all this our carbon emissions have gone up and the target of 53.266 million tons has been overshot to 55.665 million tons. Now to an extent this is dreamland as the UK element of the world production of CO² is so statistically small to be an irrelevance. Of course despite The Government’s belief in fairies, wind power does not save a gram of CO². Spinning reserve sees to that. The Scottish Government has declared that it wants to slash carbon emissions by 42 per cent by 2020, and has so far channelled almost £2 billion into renewable subsidies and climate change initiative. Therein lies the rub. Their grandiose and totally irrelevant targets are costing us dear! Modern wisdom has accepted that CO² is not a poison and is not a cause of Climate Change but may be a result of the natural fluctuations of Climate and Weather. But the silliness goes on with Paul Wheelhouse, Minister for Environment and Climate Change, appointing yet another committee, the “cabinet sub-committee on climate change”. At the same time lest he be thought a luddite on Climate “Chaos”, Transport minister Keith Brown also announced taxpayers will provide part of a £14 million bill for improvements to Scotland’s cycling infrastructure and electric car charge points. It is so satisfying to spend other people’s money, after all. What did we do to deserve these Ministers? I do really despair and wonder when reality will dawn and if it will be before or after the SNP has bankrupted us again. I say again because the Union of the two Countries that the SNP want to rend asunder came about on the back of the Darien Expedition which virtually bankrupted Scotland in 1700. This may well have laid the seeds of insurrection that fester in the minds of the Nationalists today. Like Salmond today, the blame for the Darien failure has been laid at Westminster’s doors, not the greed of the investors hoping to make a quick buck. Shades of wind in the 21st Century! Needless to say, the Green Party and assorted environmental groups called for even more cash to be spent and “tougher targets” to be imposed to meet the emissions targets. What should concern us is that they still have followers that actually believe. But them Climate is no longer a debate but a religion!
"The trouble with wind farms is that they have a very large spatial footprint for a piddling little bit of electricity. You would need 8oo turbines to produce the output of a coal-fired power station."
