And yet another turbine failure

This is becoming a bit of a habit which may raise questions on maintenance of apparatus that is hundreds of feet in the air but also of the effect of the intermittency of wind and especially some of the high winds we have seen of late. Obviously as more turbines are built there will be more failures. This does not mean that they are inherently unsafe but is the law of averages. However what it does raise issues with is the setback sometimes allowed by planners of under 500m. Luckily no one has yet been killed by a falling turbine in the UK but one person would be one too many. The Caithness Wind Farm Information Forum gives the only statistical update of accidents and turbines which is a disgrace to the industry and the government who seem intent on ignoring the issue. The Health and Safety Executive seems to be prevented from operating in this area despite the rising level of engineers deaths over the last few years.

About Dougal Quixote

Slightly mad. Always believes a cup is half full so continues to tilt at Wind Turbines and the politicians that seem to believe it is their god given right to ruin Scotland for a pot of fool's gold.
