Wind is Free, but then so is coal, gas and uranium

Wind is free? Maintenance of a turbine is £20-30,000 per annum. Beauly Denny used 22 thousand ton of steel and 1000 miles of cable, never mind the roadways and footings. Hydro prevents 70% of salmon smolts returning to the sea and now marine biologists employed by SSE are catching 12000 smolts each year to manually transfer them below the dams. Oh and in case you didn’t hear the steel erectors were all from the Philipines and the Turbine erectors were from Ireland.

In fact coal is free, gas is free and uranium is free at source. It is the cost of mining, transportation and generation that costs money and wind is no different. Beauly Denny cost £650 million. And that is just the start!
