The importance of aviation safety is not an issue to be taken lightly or passed over on a political whim.
This letter relates to the objection by the MOD of a wind farm in Caithness. One might reasonably assume that the proliferation of wind farms in the North East would have exercised the staff at the MOD prior to this but herein lies the rub. MOD and in particular local airfields have often raised objections to wind farms but when the developer contacts the MOD they are referred to MOD Safeguarding; a misnomer if ever there was one. Set up by the MOD and the DECC in Chris Huhne day it is there to AGREE mitigation. However in this case Wind Harvest; on advice by the local SNP MSP perhaps; failed to address the issues raised by MOD and Lossiemouth radar and therefore the objection stood. There are many issues with wind turbines and radar with mitigation measures costing upwards of £20 million and not exactly a proven technology. What is without doubt is that in this area we have already lost three airmen and we owe a duty of care to RAF personnel training to protect the UK. This duty of care was demonstrably missing from the SNP cadre at the North Planning Meeting. Just returned from the SNP Conference and with the sound of their mistress’s voice still ringing in their ears they demonstrated a total lack of respect for the experts at the MOD who deal with this on a day to day basis even going as far as, on the basis of heresay, wishing to over-rule the MOD. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Do we treat those that protect our skies with such a cavalier attitude? We do if we are SNP Councillors!
